Since we deal with collectors from around the world, I thought it might be useful to try to post a compendium of pipe terms in different languages. I know from experience in France that it can be very difficult discussing pipes if you don't know what a "floc" is and the other person doesn't know the word "tenon"! So, here are the various diagrams and terms that I've found and/or assembled so far. Anyone wishing to contribute is invited to copy the picture of French terms below and substitute the words from their own language, and I'll post the additions to this page.

In Dutch

Anatomie van een pijp.
1. In de kop is de tabakspot geslepen, de ruimte waarin men de tabak stopt
2. De tige vormt één geheel met de kop. De tige heeft een rookkanaal dat de rook naar het mondstuk geleidt.
3. Het mondstuk is het afdraaibare gedeelte van de pijp. Het mondstuk sluit hermetisch op de tige aan.
4. Het gedeelte van het mondstuk dat in de tige schuift en dat in gemonteerde toestand onzichtbaar is, heet de flok.
5. Het bit is het uiteinde van het mondstuk.
6. In de tabakspot wordt de pijp gestopt en smeult de tabak.
7. Aan de wand van de tabakspot zet zich gelijkmatig een koollaag af, deze ontstaat door het roken.
8. Het rookkanaal is de ruimte waardoor de rook van de kop via de tige wordt geleid naar het uiteinde van het mondstuk.
9. In het rookkanaal zit al den niet een systeem, dat de rook
