![]() Goblin #14 "Ganglewort" ![]() Ganglewort is one of our livelier Goblins, with tentacles flailing everywhere... The rim of this plateau block was crazily lumpy and chaotic, so the natural undulations of the briar block were simply adapted into Ganglewort's claws and the pipe shaped itself. It's particularly nice from the smoker's-eye view because it appears to be actively flailing in multiple drections at once. On top of that, the round dots of bird's-eye in the sandblasted surface give a distinctly suction cup-like appearance. ![]() ![]() After the brief change to acrylic with the last pipe, this Goblin is back to a horn stem again, and this one is a beautifully long and striped example of the material. Unlike some of his fellows, Ganglewort is a very practical pipe all around - easy cleaner passage, easy draw, big bowl, and it holds like any normal, garden-variety pipe since all the "action" is up on the bowl rim rather than spread over the body. ![]() ![]() This one has more tentacles than any Goblins previously, so it was a challenge to make and keep within a Goblin-sized budget. I'm pleased, though, because I think it really captures that scrabbling, scuttling, somewhat crude, Goblin pipe feel. ![]() Ganglewort and the last Goblin were a bit more practical in their design, really no different than any typical bent freehand (that just happened to have claws). Some folks don't mind the pipes that require special gripping, others struggle with them, so I try to make a little something to entertain everyone. And these are hardly the last... 2008 looks likely to be a summer of Goblins, indeed!
