Here you see the castle of the former Dukes of Brittany. It was closing as we arrived so we did not get to go inside, but it's a museum and looks quite interesting. It's also a very odd thing to see in the heart of a modern city!

A little shot of the maze-like cobblestone streets of the downtown area, where we got thoroughly lost.

Anne, last duchess of Brittany, still keeps watch from its historic capital city.

Emily stands in for scale at the doors of the Cathedral of Nantes. People were really large 500 years ago...

Some of the pipes for the Cathedral pipe organ. To gauge scale, note the small ironwork across the front. That is a human-sized guardrail.

A good shot of the renovation of the Nantes cathedral exterior. The entire building is being cleaned and repaired, with broken stones refitted, etc. My feelings are mixed - I'm sure it will be stunning, but the cleaned part seems to have lost its character to me.

The interior of the Nantes cathedral. Words cannot describe the size and scale and eerieness of this place.
