The Dolmens of Mane-Kerioned
Here's the location of the Mane-Kerioned dolmens in Brittany. It's about an hour's drive from our shop.

The main sign
This sign marks the site and gives a little information about it in several languages. Click on the picture to see a much larger version that's readable.

The standing stone tombs
This was an odd site to find. We were just driving along, making our way down to Quiberon, when we spotted a sign for "dolmens". There's a small roadside pull-off and then you walk down a forested path into the woods until you suddenly come upon this open clearing full of huge standing stone tombs. They've stood like this for an estimated 5,500 years now.

Into the tomb
One of the tombs is deeper than the others, and amazingly black inside - you literally cannot see your hand in front of your face. It's an enjoyably creepy experience to descend 5,000 year old steps into the burial chamber of some long-forgotten tribal leader or warlord.

Cavern entrance
Here's Emily glowing in the afternoon sun by the stone entrance to the deepest tomb. Is that something lurking in the darkness there?

Tomb runes
The real surprise of the tomb is that, once you're inside and immersed in pitch blackness, a flashlight or camera will reveal a startling discovery - many of the interior walls are covered in strange carvings. They don't appear to be writing but it's a mystery as to what they are or what they signify, or what the original carvers were trying to convey.
