The Circus comes to Herbignac
Each summer, we get a circus in town for one week. This is a place that has never heard of Barnum and Bailey, and the circus here is a much smaller and more casual affair. It is also highly surreal. We go to bed one night, and wake up the next morning to find the parking area filled with huge red trucks and bizarre animals wandering freely.
They're tied, more or less, but they tend to turn up all over the area, wherever there is room to put them, and one can see the strangest sights just walking to the grocery store.
A llama basks in the sun by the Netto parking lot, enjoying a little people-watching.
We never really know what to expect, and we've learned to keep the yard gates closed lest we have llamas or camels looking in the workshop windows.
Some of the animals are unusual to us since they don't seem to feature in US circuses, like this shaggy camel. It had the same friendly attitude of all camels, though...
