Name: Billiard

Notes:  Fourth in a string of tankard shapes that I've been having fun with since Christmas.  I've got one more in progress and after that I'll give these a rest for a while, though it has proven to be a surprisingly popular shape.  It is a nice combination of compact dimensions, large bowl, and thick, burly heft.

Positives: This very aged piece of plateau briar was so hard I was unable to get a very deep blast on it despite much trying, which is why it's a grade 2 instead of higher, even though it was nice enough to leave unstained.  I think this may be the most affordable natural-finish sandblast I've ever produced.  And it is a nice blast - very sharp, good ring patterns & grain.  This is the sort of pipe that will make an excellent heavy-duty smoker for someone.  Also, the very pale briar offers excellent potential for coloring as the pipe is smoked - I expect it to darken radically after some use.

Negatives: Being massive and thick-walled, it's also heavy, so better for a hand-holder than a clencher.  Check the weight!  This is pretty much the entire block of plateau :D
