Notes: I was struggling with a creative block on another pipe this December, and I applied my usual remedy - picking up another block to work on something completely different for a while.  There were no advance plans or designs for this pipe, it just grew as I worked on it and went in its own direction.  I became very intent on the idea of energy as the driving force of the design - a sort of roiling, swirling, very vibrant sense of motion.  My hope was for it to seem like a captured still-frame of something moving (an idea I have pursued many times before).  Someone suggested that it resembled a comet and that name stuck, plus it provided me with the color of the pipe.

Positives:   Beautiful, nicely-sized, and you certainly won't encounter anyone else with something similar.  The stain coloring is a good bit more vivid in real life - I applied several layers of reds and oranges to achieve my own idea of "flame red", and the stains were specially mixed and polished in such a way as to absolutely minimize the usual red stain bleed-off that tends to occur with so many pipes of this color, from all makers.  The draw is wide and completely smooth, allowing effortless enjoyment of your favorite blends.  I made the stem by hand from the finest German ebonite rod, and the sculpted lines carry the curves of the shape up the shank and back down again.  The grain is gorgeous - flaw-free and showing off a striking display of bird's-eye across the curved rim.  This, in my opinion, is just the sort of absolutely ideal pipe that I'm proud to put my name on.

Negatives: It favors a left-handed grip more than a right-handed one, due to the shapes - both work, but holding it in your left hand is more comfortable.
