Name: Blowfish #1

Notes: Curiously, this is the first blowfish I've ever done in my pipemaking career. I have avoided the shape in the past because I feel it is a trademark Danish shape, and too many folks copy their designs already. However, a very good customer asked for one, so I did as usual and made several for him to choose from. They were an excellent test of my new drilling method, wherein I shape the stummel prior to drilling it - essential to do a decent blowfish, really, because of the way the grain must flow. Of course, one of them had to be green...

Positives: Hard to beat for pure 'fun' factor. It's pleasantly short and fat, with a big bowl but compact overall dimensions. I should note that the shank extension is green acrylic, and matches the briar color nicely, but for whatever reason it tended to photograph much lighter than it is (and even looks pearl in some of the pics). The stacking of the grain rings across the bowl is hard to see in the side shots, but is obvious in the last photo. The stem is handcut black acrylic. Centered airhole is level with bowl bottom, and it passes a cleaner easily.

Negatives: Blowfish shapes really don't lend themselves well to sandblasting because they depend so much on bird's-eye displays for their impact.
