Zephyr
Getting a little more complex here. I've been working with a method for coloring briar without staining for some years now, and one great advantage it has is that it is much easier to get good contrast on complicated shapes like this WITHOUT the usual problems of all the stain rubbing off the edges and looking uneven after buffing. This isn't the same as the jet-black grain coloring that Tom Eltang uses - it produces more of a reddish-brown color. The Zephyr was the result of a strong application of this grain contrasting overlaid with some hand-blended traditional stains, and carefully finished. The black shank extension is morta. To my knowledge, currently in the collection of Brad Burgess.
